The 9th chapter of the Gospel according to Mark serves as a turning point in Jesus' ministry. As he turns his eyes toward Jerusalem, he struggles to keep his disciples focused on his mission and their role within it.
In Mark 9.38-50 Jesus calls them to seek allies rather than act like partisans and to learn how to manage their weaknesses so that they might do something good for the kingdom of God.
