At Holy Trinity Cathedral, our dedicated Altar Guild performs the essential role of caring for the Sacristy and sacred vessels, as well as setting up for all services and liturgical changes throughout the year, including weddings, baptisms, and funerals. The responsibility of the Altar Guild is to prepare the Sanctuary for services, which involves cleaning and polishing communion vessels, brass, and plaques, washing and ironing linens, and purchasing supplies and flowers. Each week, Altar Guild members set out the chalice with linen, burse, and veil in the appropriate liturgical colour, along with wine, wafers, and communion vessels to be used at Eucharistic services. They also organize and arrange flowers for the Altar and clean these items immediately after each service on Sunday. Their meticulous care ensures that our sacred spaces remain places of reverence, beauty, and spiritual nourishment.

Altar Guild members contribute their time and talent as their busy schedules permit, either on a monthly rotating basis to prepare the sanctuary for worship or on a weekly rotating basis to set up between services on Sunday. Others dedicate their time to specific responsibilities, such as organizing and arranging flowers or assisting with preparations for special services. A dedicated coordinator works with a small but enthusiastic group of Liturgical Ministers to ensure that the roles of Server, Reader, Intercessor, Chalice Administrator, and Greeters are covered for each service. Our Liturgical Ministers embrace their roles with enthusiasm and dedication to create an environment of warmth and inclusivity for everyone who walks through our doors. New members are always welcome. If you are interested in joining the Altar Guild or becoming a liturgical minister please contact the parish office.
