The Arena of God's Saving Purpose

On the 2nd Sunday of Advent we will hear Luke's account of the beginning of the ministry of John the Baptist (Luke 3.1-6). Luke wants his audience to know that God's saving purposes take place in the arena of human history and that we are not spectators but participants in those purposes.
